Kate Robertshaw Defeats Defending Champion to Reach English National Finals

Top seed Ouseph (Middlesex) defeated Neil White 21-8 21-8 in this morning's quarter-finals and then knocked out Ben Beckman 21-18 21-17 in the evening semi-finals.

Carl Baxter came through his semi-final against Toby Penty to face Ouseph in the final again after losing the last three finals to him. Baxter beat Penty 21-6 21-14.

In the women's singles Yorkshire's Kate Robertshaw earned her place in her first women's singles final when she overcame defending champion Nicola Cerfontyne 21-23 21-15 21-18.

In the final she will meet Jersey's Elizabeth Cann, who is bidding for her fifth title after winning all four finals she has appeared in. Cann came from a game down to beat Sarah Walker in her semi-final 16-21 21-11 21-18.

Nathan Robertson and Jenny Wallwork are through to the mixed final and will meet Chris Adcock and Gabby White for the second year running as they chase a hat-trick of titles.

A win would give Robertson a total of 16 national titles in his final season and would enable him to equal Mike Tredgett's record of 16 doubles titles.

But there was to be no 10th men's doubles title for Anthony Clark.

The England ace, who won a record nine men's doubles in a row before having to sit out injured last year, went down with Kristian Roebuck in a three-game tussle with defending champion Chris Langridge and new partner Peter Mills. Langridge and Mills won 18-21 21-8 21-16.
