Sarah Fitz-Gerald now retired from the professional tour comes from Melbourne, Australia.

Sarah achieved a highest Women’s International Squash Players Association (WISPA) World Ranking of No.1 and highest Australian National Ranking of No.1, winning sixty five WISPA World Tour titles and representing Australia on seventy five occasions.

In a distinguished junior career, Sarah won all Australian National age-group titles, captained two Australian junior women’s teams and in 1987 was crowned World Junior Champion in Brighton, England.

Sarah has been recognised for her achievements and awarded the prestigious Australian Female Athlete of the Year in 2001 & 2002, Dawn Fraser Award in 2001, Member of the Order of Australia (AM) and has been inducted into the Hall of Fame for World Squash Federation, WISPA, Squash Australia and Victorian Squash Federation.

Biography

Sarah Fitz-Gerald AM, crowned World Open Champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist in 2002, is a professional squash player from Melbourne, Australia.

A five times World Champion, 2001 and 2002 British Open Champion and winner of sixty-five (65) Women’s International Squash Player Association (WISPA) and World Tour titles, making her the most successful present day player and one of the four greatest women players ever with Heather McKay, Susan Devoy and Michelle Martin.

After holding the #1 ranking position unbroken for two (2) years. Sarah underwent knee surgery in December 1998 and May 1999, returning to competition in 2000.

In the October 2001 WISPA World Rankings Sarah reclaimed the No1 position following a total of fifteen (15) WISPA World Tour title wins, which was followed with the capture of her fourth World Open title in her home town Melbourne.

Sarah's career started by winning the World Junior Championship in 1987, before bursting onto the senior tour to win numerous major titles as well as five (5) World Team championships titles. World Cup gold medals and 1998 Commonwealth Silver and Bronze medals.

Sarah has represented Australia from the age of fourteen (14), having worn the 'green and gold' on seventy-five (75) separate occasions.
